MCA : Language transition is a key factor in dropout

“20 Year Plan of Action” opines that Ministry of Education must review and rectify the problems with remove classes, instead of closing it. The Chief Operating Officer of LLG Yow Lee Fung urged civil society groups to work together with LLG to prepare additional classes or counselling for students whose learning progress are slow, before the government could take any action to implement changes.

Referring to a research done by MCA in 2002, the research report revealed that as much as 24.5% of Chinese primary school leavers dropped out in government secondary schools. MCA had picked randomly and interviewed 600 dropped out students, it found that Language transition and could not follow the syllabus was the key factor causing dropout, at 34.5%.
