    [Event] 2017 Hari Bahasa Ibunda Antarabangsa

    Hari Bahasa Ibunda Sedunia disambut pada 21 Februari setiap tahun melalui pengisytiharan oleh UNESCO sejak 17 November 1999 untuk mengiktiraf kepelbagaian bahasa dan budaya dalam kalangan penduduk dunia dengan menginterpretasikan bahasa ibunda merupakan bahasa yang pertama sekali dikuasai oleh seseorang dan digunakan untuk berhubung sesama keluarga serta lingkungannya sama ada bahasa itu besar atau sebaliknya yang begitu penting dalam kehidupan sesuatu kelompok etnik sebagai satu budaya amalan. Selain itu, sambutan ini juga menjadi bukti bahawa UNESCO mengakui pelestarian bahasa ibunda di samping menggalakkan penggunaan lebih daripada satu bahasa dalam sesebuah negara.

    Mr. Lim Lian Geok, the former chairman of Jiao Zong (United Chinese School Teachers Association of Malaysia, UCSTAM), was a man honoured as “Soul of the Malaysian Chinese” by the Chinese community. He was recognized by the Malaysian Chinese academicians such as Professor Tay Lian Soo who commended him highly as the first and most important figure in Malaysian Chinese education history.

Aktiviti-aktiviti peringatan tersebut ditaja oleh Tan Kai Hee, Pengerusi Eksekutif Kumpulan Hai-O Enterprise Berhad, dan Ng Beng Tee, Penasihat Pusat Pembangunan Kebudayaan LLG.
